This Quilt was made from strips of pirate, tattoo, and scrap fabric that came together as a "Utility" Quilt. Jewell uses this quilt on her bed every day. A Utility Quilt means a "to be used everyday" quilt. This is not one to be put away and only brought out to show others, but a quilt that gets daily use.
Each Square of 5 strips of fabric has a specific stitch of Braided Rope that would be found on a Pirate Ship, Anchors, Ships, Waves, and a Steering Wheel. The back fabric is a warm flannel with ships tossing around on the stormy ocean.
The scrap fabric was chosen because of Jewell's many interests and we also used fabric scraps left over from a quilt that we made for one of our Japanese girls who lived with us during her High School years, Yukiko.
